Hawai‘i REALTORS® has launched its 2026 annual Keiki Art Contest to help children and their families learn about fair housing.
With the theme “Open Homes, Bright Futures,” Hawai‘i REALTORS® is encouraging contest entries to showcase how a home can be the beginning of a dream, a new opportunity, and a brighter future. Fair housing helps ensure that people have a fair chance to find a home where they can live, grow, learn, and thrive.
The contest celebrates the importance of the Fair Housing Act, which became law in April 1968. The law helps prevent discrimination in housing by ensuring equal access when renting or buying a home, securing a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities.
“We encourage our keiki and their families to get involved in learning about fair housing and their rights when engaging in housing-related activities such as renting or buying a home and securing a home loan,” said Hawai‘i REALTORS® President Gina Duncan. “As REALTORS®, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to achieve homeownership, and we are committed to ensuring no one is left behind.”
The National Association of REALTORS® offers virtual resources and training for REALTORS® as well as additional information about the Fair Housing Act.
The annual Keiki Art Contest is free and is open to all Hawai‘i students from grades K-8, with two categories: grades K-4 and 5-8. First-place winners in each category will receive $250, second-place winners $150, and third-place winners $75. Honorable Mentions will also be selected. The deadline to submit artwork is October 31, 2026, and winners will be announced by late November 2026. Artwork of first-place winners will also be featured in a printed 2027 Hawai‘i REALTORS® calendar.
Submissions must be original, on paper, and may not exceed 8 ½ x 11 inches in size. Acceptable media include paint, pencil, markers, ink, crayon, and watercolor. Entries can be submitted online or mailed to Hawai‘i REALTORS®. For the official entry form and guidelines, visit www.hawaiirealtors.com/keikiartcontest.
