Education Requirements

Essential education requirements for Hawaii REALTORS®. Stay current with state licensing requirements, NAR Code of Ethics training, and Fair Housing education to maintain your professional standing and provide the highest level of service to your clients.

Hawaii CE

Real estate agents and brokers are licensed by the State of Hawaii through the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA). Licensees are required to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education (CE) courses each two-year licensing period; referred to as the licensing biennium. The licensing biennium begins January 1st of every odd numbered year and ends December 31st of even numbered years. The renewal deadline is November 30th of each numbered year to ensure active license status on January 1st of the following year.

The 20 required CE hours include 6 hours for the Hawaii Real Estate Commission (REC) designated core courses and 14 hours of elective credits. The Hawaii REC releases Core A every odd numbered year and Core B every even numbered year for 3 credit hours each. These Core courses cover important legislative updates and selected special topics. We recommend attending the Core courses in the year they are released so that agents are kept up to date on law changes and issues affecting the Hawaii real estate profession.

The DCCA provides licensees with access to information and services 24/7 from the MyPVL website. Licensees may track their CE credits, download course completion certificates, view their license status, download their pocket license, and more with a free MyPVL account.

NAR Code of Ethics

The National Association of REALTORS® requires its members to complete ethics training every three years. Ethics training must be no less than 2 hours and 30 minutes of instructional time and meet NAR's learning objectives and criteria. Check with your local board about their list of acceptable courses.

This requirement is separate from state licensing requirements.

NAR Fair Housing

Beginning January 1, 2025, the National Association of REALTORS® requires its members to complete Fair Housing and anti-bias training every three years (coinciding with the ethics training timeline). This requirement is in addition to the Code of Ethics training. Qualified Fair Housing training must be no less than 2 hours of instructional time and meet NAR's learning objectives and criteria. Check with your local board about their list of acceptable courses.

This requirement is separate from state licensing requirements.
