(Honolulu, HI) October 16, 2018
On Sunday, October 14, REALTORS®, joined by friends, family and other community members, volunteered at simultaneous events across the islands to complete project wish lists of schools. Projects varied from yardwork to the cleaning and repainting of school rooms. This was part of a partnership between the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Hawaii’s Adopt-A-School Day program and Hawaii REALTORS®.
The Adopt-A-School Day program’s goal is to “create one day where collaboration, vision, and service can make a difference.” Hawaii REALTORS® took the opportunity to “adopt” schools as part of its REALTOR® Action Day, a statewide community service event that promotes volunteer action in the community. REALTORS® coordinated with principals, local businesses, and community members to serve schools by securing supplies and volunteers.
“When we learned that JCI Hawaii would like to expand their program to other islands, we recognized that it was a natural fit. As a statewide association, we had the resources to help them reach other islands, especially since REALTORS® and local REALTOR® associations often do community outreach with schools or nonprofit organizations throughout the year,” said Frank Goodale, 2018 President of Hawaii REALTORS®.
Hawaii REALTORS® adopted schools on Maui (Pomaikai Elementary), Lanai (E Malama I Na Keiki O Lanai Preschool), and Hawaii Island (Holualoa Elementary) in addition to two schools on Oahu (Ilima Intermediate and Jefferson Elementary). Lanai’s event was rescheduled due to weather. All other event sites were successful in completing their project goals in time for students and teachers to enjoy the school improvements when they return from fall break.
“The success of these projects is a testament to what we can do if collaborate as a community and work on a solution together,” said Goodale.
