Real Estate Is Our Top Priority

Every year, we look at issues affecting REALTORS® and the real estate industry. We determine which issues should be our top priority during the legislative session, and compile it into our Legislative Program.

In 2018, our 5 priority issues are:

  • Balanced Solution to Rental Application Screening Fees
  • Establishing Consumer Protection Mechanisms for Short-Term Vacation Rentals
  • Increasing the Handyman Exemption to the Small Claims Court Limit
  • Solving Hawai‘i's Housing Problem through Creative Partnerships
  • Creating a Holdover Seller Exemption Under the Landlord-Tenant Code

Advancing our Legislative Priorities

REALTOR® Day

REALTOR® leaders from across the State go to the Capitol to share our Legislative Program with lawmakers and discuss other real estate issues.

It is one of the best ways to promote our priority issues and have REALTORS® make connections with our elected officials.

Government Affairs Committee

During the legislative session, from January through May, the Government Affairs Committee (GAC) works tirelessly. The GAC meets every week and reviews all real estate related bills, discusses strategy and determines which bills we need to testify on.
