Show Legislators Your Opposition to Proposed General Excise Tax Increase

A bill moving through the state Legislature will raise the General Excise Tax by 25%!

If passed, the GET will jump from 4% to 5%. This increased tax will be tacked on to the sale of all goods and services in Hawaii .

An increase in the General Excise Tax will add to the already skyrocketing cost of living and cost of housing in Hawaii . Most importantly, it is a regressive tax that hits hardest those who can least afford to pay it.

We will not be successful in defeating this tax increase without the help of every REALTOR® member, businessperson, and taxpayer in the State of Hawaii .

We urge you to do the following today:

  - Contact your legislators with your concerns by visiting http://www.hawaiirealtors.com and submitting a call to action letter. It's easy to do with a few mouse clicks and key strokes.

  - Please add your own words in opposition. They want to hear from you — their constituents.

  - Forward this email to your families, friends, and colleagues and encourage them to send out their own call to action letters by going to http://www.hawaiirealtors.com.

  - Let your voice and presence be heard at the State Capitol! Everyone, rally at the Decision Making hearing on Tuesday, April 5 at 10:15 a.m. in the Senate Committee Ways and Means, State Capitol Room 211. This is an opportune time to personally visit your legislators and voice your opposition.
