Continuing Education ("CE")
Senate Bill 2602, House Draft 1 passed the Legislature and was signed into law by the Governor on March 23, 2010 as Act 9, Session Laws of Hawai'i 2010. Click here for a link to the law >>
How much did the CE hours increase by?
Continuing Education hours increased from 10 hours to at least 20 hours for each biennium. HAR's Board of Directors supported the concept of an increase to help elevate the level of professionalism of the real estate industry.
When does this change apply?
The 20 hour increase will begin on January 1, 2011.
What happens now that the CE hours have been increased?
The Real Estate Commission will need to update the CE section of the Hawai'i Administrative Rules, Chapter 99.
Will we have a say in how these Administrative Rules are being changed?
The Hawai'i Real Estate Commission and HAR are working jointly on recommended amendments to the Hawai'i Administrative Rules. These amendments will be open for further comments through a hearing process and the final review and approval by the Hawai'i Real Estate Commission.
What will HAR recommend be included in the changes to the Administrative Rules?
HAR will make recommendations on quality assurance and broadening of course topics for CE, such as allowing for technology or brokerage management courses. This will help increase the supply and topics of CE courses available to help elevate the professionalism of the real estate industry.
How long will this rule updating process take?
Although the Task Force recommendations on changes to the Administrative Rules do not have a required date to be completed the 20 hours of Continuing Education increase will still be in effect by January 1, 2011 for the new biennium.
