The GRI Designation Requirements
Total: 90 Hours of Course Instruction
You must complete a total of 90 Hours of course instruction covering various facets of the real estate industry:
- 60 Hours of Mandatory Courses
- 30 Hours of Elective Courses
Mandatory Courses: 60 Hours
There are ten required courses. Each course is 6 hours long and you must complete all ten courses to fulfill the 60 Hours of Mandatory course requirement.
- Business Planning
- Agency, Practical Ethics, & Fair Housing
- At Home with Diversity
- Legal Issues
- Pricing, Listing & Marketing
- Condominiums and Planned Communities
- Residential Tax Rules, 1031 Exchange, and Foreign Investors

Elective Courses: 30 Hours
There are three elective courses. Each course is 6 hours long.
- Analysis of Investment Real Estate
- Land Use and Development
- Property Management & Landlord/Tenant
Elective hours can also be earned by taking NAR affiliated Institute courses: ABR, CRB, CRS, CCIM, IREM, CIPS, and e-PRO.
Note: ABR, IREM, CIPS, and e-PRO courses are offered online at REALTOR University.

NOTE: All NAR Affiliated courses must be at least 2-days long. 1-day courses will be awarded 6 elective hours.
All course credits must be completed within five years from the time you take your first course.
